It’s important to enhance quality awareness and promote high-quality development. ----------------------------------------- Epichlorohydrin is a raw material used in the production of epoxy resins. The industrial methods for its production include the chlorohydrin route and the glycerol route, both of which involve two processes: chlorohydrination and saponification. These processes cause severe equipment corrosion, and they also generate large amounts of wastewater and waste residues. To enhance the competitiveness of the resin industry chain in terms of green development, Baling Petrochemical has developed an original and innovative clean production technology for epichlorohydrin, one that relies entirely on its own intellectual property. More than 40 invention patents have been applied for, with over 30 of them already granted. This technology has been included in the **Ministry of Science and Technology’s key research and development projects for the 14th Five-Year Plan, as well as Sinopec’s key scientific and technological projects under its “Ten Dragon” initiative. On September 7, 2021, Sinopec Corporation approved the feasibility study report submitted by Baling Petrochemical for the industrial demonstration plant project aimed at producing 50,000 tons per year of environmentally friendly epichlorohydrin, and agreed to carry out this project by using the directly oxidation method developed in-house to build a new industrial demonstration plant capable of producing 50,000 tons per year of such epichlorohydrin. On September 13, 2022, the basic design for this project was approved by Sinopec Corporation. The project is located within the premises of the Baling Petrochemical caprolactam industry chain relocation, upgrading, and transformation project in the Yueyang Green Chemical Industry Park. It was designed in accordance with **standard specifications, and its environmental protection, safety, and occupational health aspects all meet the requirements of the \"three simultaneities\" principle. The epichlorohydrin produced after the completion of the facility will be entirely used as raw material for epoxy resin production at Baling Petrochemical. On June 5, 2023, the industrial demonstration project for a 50,000-ton-per-year production facility of environmentally friendly epichlorohydrin at Baling Petrochemical was approved for commencement by Sinopec’s Engineering Department. Thus, the project has entered the phase of full construction. According to Huizheng Information, Baling Petrochemical currently has a propylene-based epichlorohydrin production facility with a capacity of 32,000 tons.
