All units of BDO production line for this project have been put into operation. May 24, 2024 – On May 16, Line 3 for BDO production with an annual capacity of 104,000 tons and Line 4 for PTMEG production with an annual capacity of 46,000 tons at Huaheng Energy’s facility in Wuhai were successfully commissioned. Together with the 2 BOD production lines with an annual capacity of 104,000 tons and the 3 PTMEG production lines with an annual capacity of 46,000 tons that were already in operation, Huaheng Energy’s BDO production capacity reaches 312,000 tons per year, while its PTMEG production capacity reaches 184,000 tons per year. As a result, Huaheng Energy has become the world’s largest producer of PTMEG on a single facility basis. The integrated new material industry chain project of Huaheng Energy Technology, which is already in operation – the Huaheng Energy project – involves the production of PTMEG and PBAT materials. The total investment in this project is 10.5 billion yuan, and it is located in the Low-Carbon Industry Park of Wuhai Economic Development Zone in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The project utilizes Uhai City’s abundant limestone and coal resources to produce BDO via the alkyne-aldehyde method. Upon completion, the project will enable higher-quality on-site conversion of coal and more efficient use of energy, while also filling the gap in PTMEG production in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The main facilities to be constructed include an acetylene feedstock plant with a capacity of 360,000 tons per year, an acetylene generation plant with a capacity of 120,000 tons per year, a natural gas-to-hydrogen plant with a capacity of 28,000 standard cubic meters per hour, a formaldehyde plant with a capacity of 720,000 tons per year, a BDO plant with a capacity of 312,000 tons per year (three units with a combined capacity of 3×104,000 tons per year), a PTMEG plant with a capacity of 184,000 tons per year (four units with a combined capacity of 4×46,000 tons per year), and a PBAT plant with a capacity of 60,000 tons per year. Inner Mongolia Huaheng Energy Technology Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zhuji Huahai Spandex Co., Ltd. In recent years, Huahai Spandex’s production capacity has expanded rapidly; once the Huaheng Energy project is operational, the annual production capacity of PTMEG will reach 184,000 tons, which will be sufficient to meet the raw material needs for spandex production as planned by Huahai Spandex. At the same time, Huahai Spandex will become the third spandex manufacturer on the Chinese mainland to have the capability to produce PTMEG (the other two being Hyosung Group and Hangzhou Qingyun Co., Ltd.). In addition, Taihe New Materials, Taiguang Fiber, and Lilong Spandex have also planned PTMEG production projects, which will help to reduce Huahai Spandex’s production costs. However, in the short term, its PTMEG production capacity will not be sufficient to meet its own needs, so it will still have to purchase raw materials externally.
The total production capacity for likes exceeds 300,000 tons! All units of BDO’s production line for this project have been put into operation!
