In October 2023, during the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, Sinopec and Kazakhstan’s **Oil and Gas Company signed an agreement in Beijing regarding their investment in the Silleno project. In September 2024, the project was approved by the board of directors of Sinopec Group. Located in Atyrau Region of Kazakhstan, this project utilizes ethane from the country’s largest oil field, the Tengiz Field, to build a polyethylene plant with an annual production capacity of 1.25 million tons. The project adopts internationally advanced licensed technologies, giving it strong comprehensive market competitiveness. Its products can be widely used in fields such as packaging, auto parts, and building materials to meet the demands of the local market. The project will significantly enhance the overall competitiveness of Sinopec’s entire industrial chain, while also effectively promoting Chinese companies in areas such as engineering, financing, and trade to go global.
