Jiujiang Petrochemical’s 3 million-ton PTA project officially signed

On July 23, the Jiujiang Economic Development Zone held the signing ceremony for the seventh batch of projects for 2025. This signing event involves 10 industrial projects, covering key sectors such as petrochemical refining, new energy and new materials, as well as high-end equipment manufacturing. The successful signing of these projects will help further optimize and upgrade the industrial structure, providing strong impetus for the high-quality development of the Jiujiang Economic Development Zone. The signing of the 3 million tons per year PTA project at Jiujiang Petrochemical is an important step taken by Sinopec to establish an aromatics industry hub in China’s central region. It also represents the implementation of the ‘1269’ action plan for the modernization of key manufacturing industries in Jiangxi Province, as well as the ‘9610’ initiative for Jiujiang’s manufacturing sector, and serves to promote common development between enterprises and the local community. The enterprise will ensure proper implementation to promote the high-quality development of the petrochemical industry. Jiujiang Petrochemical Industrial Park is under the jurisdiction of Jiujiang Economic Development Zone and is located in the eastern part of Jiujiang city. It was established in October 2020 with the approval of the Jiangxi Provincial Government; it is the first provincial-level petrochemical park in Jiangxi Province, covering an area of approximately 8,064.6 mu. The park is divided into two areas based on product type and function: one is the oil refining industry zone – which relies primarily on the existing 5,400 mu of production area at Jiujiang Petrochemical, and has a crude oil processing capacity of 10 million tons per year ； The second is the refining and chemical integration zone – an area of approximately 2,600 mu that will be developed to utilize the aromatic products produced by Jiujiang Petrochemical’s refining operations as raw materials for building downstream industrial chains related to aromatics; this area will serve as the core of the park in the future. Jiujiang Petrochemical Industrial Park is the first provincial-level petrochemical industrial park in the province, aiming to develop an integrated oil refining and aromatic compounds industry chain; the park covers an area of approximately 8,064.6 mu. Of this, the refining area at Jiujiang Petrochemical covers approximately 5,400 mu, with an annual crude oil processing capacity of 8 million tons. An additional area of about 2,600 mu is planned for the construction of projects related to the aromatic compounds industry; the total investment in these projects is estimated to be around 33.2 billion yuan. This includes a project for producing 1.5 million tons of aromatic compounds per year, a PTA production project with an annual output of 3 million tons, and a PET production project with an annual output of 3.76 million tons. Upon full completion, the Jiujiang Petrochemical Industrial Park will develop an integrated oil refining and aromatics industry chain that includes oil refining, aromatics production, PTA, PET, and the manufacture of end products. This will generate an additional revenue of 60 billion yuan per year, enabling the park to become a chemical industrial park worth 100 billion yuan in Jiangxi Province as well as a premier green and intelligent petroleum refining base in the central region.
