On October 18, the Green Fuel Zero-Carbon Industrial Park and the 100,000-ton green methanol project in Zhangye City, Gansu Province, were launched in Minle County. The total investment for the project is 3 billion yuan, with a planned land area of 400 mu; it will be developed in two phases to create an industrial park capable of producing 300,000 tons of green methanol per year. The Zhangye Green Fuel Zero-Carbon Industrial Park is located in the Minle County Industrial Park. With a total planned investment of 3 billion yuan, it will be built in two phases by Sinocem Energy Chemical (Gansu) Co., Ltd., a company established under the leadership of Sinochem Group. On that day, the first phase of the 100,000-ton green methanol project was launched, with an investment of 1.05 billion yuan. The project involves the construction of a plant for producing 13,500 tons of hydrogen per year through water electrolysis, a plant for processing 250,000 tons of biomass per year, a plant for producing 100,000 tons of green methanol per year, and a steam production plant with an output of 300,000 tons per year. The project utilizes agricultural and forestry waste such as reed straws and rapeseed straw, which are abundant in Zhangye City and its surrounding areas, as a biomass source. Green methanol is produced by gasifying this waste and then coupling it with water electrolysis to generate green hydrogen. The entire production process and life cycle result in carbon reduction. The green methanol produced boasts advantages in terms of emission reduction capacity, energy density, cost, and ease of use. In addition, binding purchase agreements have been established with companies such as COSCO, China National Container Group, and Maersk. The investment for the second phase amounts to 1.95 billion yuan, and it is primarily used for projects such as the manufacturing of hydrogen energy equipment and biomass gasification furnaces. At the same time, the “SOEC Engineering Application Demonstration Center” and the “Sinochem Zhongke Environmental Multi-oxygen Combustion Gasification Furnace Engineering Demonstration Center” were established, along with a “Green Methanol Secure Supply Base,” to provide intellectual, human resource, and technical support for promoting the green transformation of the industry.
