SH/T3244-2025, the \"Technical Standards for Covered Liquefied Hydrocarbon Storage Facilities,\" has been officially approved and released, and will come into effect on July 1, 2026. On December 17, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China issued Announcement No. 41 for 2025, approving 748 industry standards. Among them, the industry standard that has attracted the most attention – the \"Technical Standards for Covered Liquefied Hydrocarbon Storage Facilities\" – has been officially approved and released. The standard number is SH/T3244-2025, and it will come into effect on July 1, 2026. This document specifies the technical requirements for covered liquefied hydrocarbon storage facilities, including basic regulations, layout planning, process piping and automatic control design, tank design, foundation and covering design, utility systems, fire protection design, safety and environmental protection, tank manufacturing, construction and acceptance, operation and maintenance, as well as regular inspection of tanks. Scope of application: This document applies to new construction, expansion, and renovation projects of full-pressure or semi-frozen buried liquefied hydrocarbon storage facilities in petrochemical enterprises, coal chemical enterprises, and liquefied hydrocarbon storage depots. Since the 1970s, Europe, the United States, Japan** and China have successively begun to develop buried liquefied hydrocarbon storage tanks, which involve placing the tank bodies in sand to reduce the impact of the external environment, and have gradually started to replace large spherical tanks with these buried tanks. Compared to foreign countries, there are fewer cases of buried bullet containers in China, and there are no relevant laws, regulations, standards, or requirements in place. Buried storage tanks (also known as buried spherical tanks) and above-ground spherical tanks can both be used for storing liquefied hydrocarbons. Compared to above-ground spherical tanks, buried storage tanks offer advantages such as preventing vapor cloud explosions, reducing the impact of external fires, decreasing the required safety distances between tanks and surrounding facilities, and minimizing land use. They also overcome the issues associated with maintenance, corrosion, earthquakes, and heavy rainfall, making them highly suitable for use in the storage and transportation of liquefied hydrocarbons. The issuance of this standard fills a gap in the relevant field in China, providing technical support for the optimal engineering design of the intrinsic safety of liquefied hydrocarbon storage and transportation facilities in our country. At the end of this text, the draft version of the \"Technical Standards for Liquefied Hydrocarbon Storage Facilities with Backfilling\" (SH/T3244-2025) will be attached. Although it is a draft version, it contains a great deal of useful information, so everyone can take a first look at it.
