[Haichuan Overseas Engineering] CNOOC Engineering completes and delivers Shell’s HI project in Nigeria

The Shell Nigeria HI project, constructed by CNOOC Engineering, has been completed and delivered. Recently, with the shipment of the upper module from the intelligent manufacturing base port in Tianjin, this project was fully completed in just 12 months, setting a new record for efficiency in international offshore oil and gas project construction. This achievement provides strong impetus for energy cooperation between China and Nigeria as well as for the sustainable development of global energy resources. The Shell Nigeria HI project is a landmark initiative in which CNOOC Engineering acted as the EPC contractor in collaboration with Shell. It is located 50 kilometers off the coast in the southern Niger Delta, at a water depth of 100 meters. The key components of the project include an upper module with four decks and a four-leg jacket; it utilizes a hybrid power supply system combining wind and solar energy, thereby eliminating the need for diesel reserves and reducing costs related to power transmission cables. This results in a 60% reduction in annual operation and maintenance costs, as well as a reduction of approximately 40 tons of carbon emissions per year. The total weight of the upper module for this project is around 1,100 tons, equivalent to the weight of 700 cars. The overall height of the platform is 128 meters, exceeding the height of 40-story buildings, while its projected area is 850 square meters, equivalent to the size of two standard basketball courts. During the construction of the platform, CNOOC Engineering took advantage of the resources available across the entire industrial chain. By utilizing China’s first “smart factory” for offshore oil and gas equipment and more than 400 sets of intelligent production devices, it achieved digital control over the entire process, from the arrival of materials to welding and painting, thus maximizing the efficiency of automated production lines
