Recently, the Pingdingshan Ecology and Environment Bureau issued a public notice announcing that the environmental impact assessment report for the second phase of the project carried out by Henan Pingmei Shenma Polycarbonate Materials Co., Ltd., which involves the production of 200,000 tons per year of polycarbonate along with 150,000 tons per year of phosgene, has been accepted for review. In the first phase of the project, a PC production facility with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons, along with a bisphenol A production facility capable of handling 130,000 tons per year, was built. During the construction of this phase, comprehensive utility and auxiliary production facilities were also established (including air separation and air compression stations, refrigeration stations, circulating water systems, etc.). In order to make full use of the existing utility capacity and reduce the production costs of PC products, Henan Pingmei Shennma Polycarbonate Materials Co., Ltd. plans to expand the facility in the reserved land within the plant site to build a second phase featuring a polycarbonate production facility with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons, along with a phosgene production facility capable of handling 150,000 tons per year. This project adopts a partnership approach with Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd., with the PC process technology originating from Wanhua Group. The total investment for the second phase of the 200,000-ton PC project, along with the associated chlor-alkali and boiler projects, is around 6 billion yuan, and construction will also begin in the second half of this year. With the completion of the second-phase bisphenol A and second-phase PC production facilities, the industrial chain will become relatively complete, and the production capacity will place it among the top players in China’s PC industry. This will enhance the industry’s competitiveness and make a greater contribution to the economic development of Ye County and even Pingdingshan as a whole. ”Ning Hongjun said. Location: Ye County Advanced Manufacturing Development Zone (within the premises of Henan Pingmei Shennma Polycarbonate Materials Co., Ltd.). Production capacity: 200,000 tons per year of polycarbonate. Number of employees: An additional 120 employees will be hired. Working schedule: The production workshops and control staff operate on a four-shift system, working 24 hours a day ; Other management and office staff work on a day shift, 8 hours per day. 333 working days per year (8,000 hours of production operation time). Company Overview: Pingmei Shenma Group was established in December 2008 through the merger of the former Pingmei Group and Shenma Group, both of which were among China’s top 500 enterprises. Today, it has grown into a large state-owned new energy chemical group that focuses on industries such as coal coke, nylon, new energy, and new materials, and operates across different regions, industries, and countries. It is also an enterprise in Henan Province that boasts revenues and total assets of over 100 billion yuan each. Henan Pingmei Shennma Polycarbonate Materials Co., Ltd. was established in February 2018. The company is part of the Pingmei Shennma Group, and its factory is located in the Yexian Advanced Manufacturing Development Zone (formerly the Yexian Industrial Cluster Area). It covers an area of about 1,000 mu, and there are plans to build a project there that will produce 400,000 tons per year of polycarbonate, along with 370,000 tons per year of bisphenol A, within the Yexian Industrial Cluster Area. Polycarbonate (PC) is a general term for a class of polymer materials whose molecular chains contain carbonate groups. Depending on the type of ester group, they can be divided into aliphatic PC, alicyclic PC, aromatic PC, etc. The poor mechanical properties of aliphatic and alicyclic PC limit their use in engineering plastics. At present, the most practically useful type in industry is bisphenol A PC. Bisphenol A-type PC is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, highly transparent thermoplastic engineering plastic with excellent overall properties. It boasts good physical and mechanical characteristics, particularly outstanding impact resistance and low creep behavior. It also exhibits excellent color and dimensional stability, as well as high light transmittance – with a transmittance of over 90% for visible light. Polycarbonate is mainly used in fields such as films/sheets, the automotive industry, electronics/electrical devices, and household appliances, offering broad application prospects.
