Recently, good news came from Yulin Chemical’s 15 million tons per year demonstration project for the clean and efficient conversion of coal into various products: all 30 key pieces of equipment for the PSA units, which are essential for the first phase of this project involving the production of olefins, aromatics, and other products through further processing, have been successfully installed. This marks a significant milestone in the construction of this facility’s processing units, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent stages of the project. As a model project for Shaanxi Coal Group in promoting the clean and efficient use of coal and establishing a high-end coal-based chemical industry chain, the PSA unit serves as the core component in the hydrogen purification process during the differentiated conversion of coal. It is responsible for purifying and recovering the useful hydrogen from the membrane-separated non-permeate gas, thereby improving the utilization rate of the raw material syngas and helping to achieve energy savings and reduced consumption. The 30 units installed this time include core process equipment such as adsorption towers, gas-liquid separators, desorbed gas buffer tanks, desorbed gas mixing tanks, regasification tanks, and coolers; all of them were custom-designed to meet the requirements of coal conversion on a scale of tens of millions of tons. Among them, the maximum weight of a single core adsorption tower is about 14.2 tons, with a diameter of 1.5 meters and a total height of 10 meters; it requires high installation precision and a tight schedule. To facilitate the efficient installation of the equipment, the methanol project team planned the site layout and transportation routes in advance, and strictly enforced safety control and quality inspection standards. Faced with challenges such as difficulties in bringing equipment into the site and complex coordination of concurrent construction tasks, the team adopted a strategy of \"centralized transportation, precise lifting, and simultaneous inspection.\" By ensuring safety and quality, they successfully installed all 30 core pieces of equipment, demonstrating the efficient construction capabilities required for coal chemical projects of tens of millions of tons in scale. It is reported that this PSA unit utilizes the large-scale pressure swing adsorption technology independently developed by the Southwest Research Institute. It is designed to achieve a hydrogen purity of 99.9% with a hydrogen recovery rate of ≥80%. It boasts advantages such as low energy consumption, stable operation, and a high degree of automation, enabling efficient purification of hydrogen from water gas and providing stable, high-quality raw gas for the main production processes. Once the facility is put into operation, it is expected to increase the utilization rate of hydrogen resources by more than 10%, thereby enhancing the project’s demonstrative role in the efficient and clean utilization of coal based on different quality levels. At present, the project has fully entered the installation phase, with completion scheduled for March 30, 2027, to help accelerate the development of a world-leading demonstration base for the selective conversion of coal.
