On April 2, 2026, significant progress was made in the construction of the extrusion granulation unit for the POE production line in the Blue Sea New Materials project. The core equipment of this unit – the main reduction gearbox and the main motor of the extrusion granulation system – were successfully installed with precision in just one attempt, despite various challenges such as limited space and extremely high requirements for installation accuracy. This achievement laid a solid foundation for the precise alignment of subsequent equipment such as motors and screw barrels, as well as for the proper operation of the entire production line. As a large state-owned enterprise fully established by CNPC in the Tongzhou Bay Demonstration Zone of Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, Lanhai New Materials (Tongzhou Bay) Co., Ltd. was founded in May 2024 with a registered capital of 8 billion yuan. It is designed to serve as a base for the high-end chemical new materials industry as well as a technology incubation platform. The company’s high-end polyolefin new materials project is a key initiative by China National Petroleum Corporation in response to the strategic plans for emerging industries and as part of its efforts to deepen strategic cooperation with Jiangsu Province. With a total investment of around 10.1 billion yuan, the project involves the construction of core production facilities such as a 100,000-ton/year POE plant, a 200,000-ton/year FDPE plant, and a 50,000-ton/year EPDM plant. All of these facilities will utilize technologies developed by China National Petroleum Corporation, with the goal of replacing imports of high-end polyolefin products. Since its commencement in September 2024, the project has set a record as the fastest project of a billion-yuan scale to be launched in Nantong. In March 2025, it entered the phase of comprehensive construction of its key core equipment; by January 2026, millimeter-precision installation of 13 pipeline tunnel modules had been completed. The first phase of the project is scheduled to go into operation in September 2026. Once completed, the products will be widely used in high-end fields such as aerospace, photovoltaics, automotive industry, and healthcare, contributing to the high-quality development of China’s chemical new materials industry. The extrusion granulation unit of the POE device is a key production stage in the Blue Ocean New Materials project, and the installation quality of its core equipment directly affects the subsequent operational stability of the device as well as the quality of the products produced. The main reducer and the main motor of the extrusion granulation system installed this time are characterized by their large size, heavy weight, and high precision requirements. Moreover, the construction site is limited in space, which poses significant difficulties in transporting, lifting, and installing these equipment. The successful installation of these core equipment marks a new phase in the construction of the extrusion and granulation unit for POE devices. Next, the project team will accelerate the installation and alignment of equipment such as motors and screw barrels, to ensure that the extrusion granulation system is ready for commissioning at an early date, thus laying a solid foundation for the timely operation of the POE plant. As a key project in China National Petroleum Corporation’s strategy for developing high-end chemical materials, the Blue Sea New Materials project will, upon completion, effectively fill the gap in domestic high-end polyolefin products and contribute to the high-quality development of China’s chemical materials industry.
