The Dongming Petrochemical’s olefin new materials technology demonstration project, with a total investment of 11.6 billion yuan, has entered the final stage of completion

With a total investment of 11.6 billion yuan, the olefin new materials project, which is under the general contracting of Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Beijing Petrochemical Engineering”), has recently reached an important milestone. At present, the overall construction progress of the project has exceeded 96%, and it has officially entered the final push phase. Every effort is being made to ensure high-quality handovers, thereby laying a solid foundation for its early commissioning. As a major construction project in Shandong Province and a key initiative for Dongming Petrochemical Group in advancing its strategy of \"reducing oil production and increasing chemical production,\" this project has a total investment of around 11.6 billion yuan and covers an area of 101.1 hectares. The project is constructed in accordance with the principles of \"integration of raw materials and products, as well as integration of utility systems.\" It includes 5 core production units: one for 400,000 tons per year of full-density polyethylene (FDPE), one for 400,000 tons per year of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), one for 350,000 tons per year of polypropylene (PP), one for 200,000 tons per year of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), and one for 200,000 tons per year of propylene oxide/450,000 tons per year of styrene (PO/SM). During the project construction phase, Beiyou Engineering made full use of its advantages in general contracting management to coordinate the entire process of design, procurement, and construction. In the face of challenges such as complex construction and high technical requirements, the project team established a detailed professional management system to efficiently coordinate various resources. Through the joint efforts of over 1,500 construction workers, the project successfully completed key tasks such as the installation of the steel structure, the placement of core equipment, and the welding of process pipelines. The pass rates for various inspections and pressure tests on these pipelines were above industry standards, demonstrating an excellent level of engineering quality management. The project features world-leading technical equipment, having adopted advanced international processes from companies such as Basell, Repsol, and Univyn. Upon completion, the project will have the capability to produce high-value-added products such as premium metallocene polyethylene and specialty materials for high-performance pipes; some of these products will break foreign monopolies and enable import substitution. At the same time, the project will effectively utilize the raw materials from upstream crude oil to direct olefin production (UPC) projects, thereby establishing a complete industrial chain that spans from crude oil processing to high-end chemical materials. At present, the project has entered the final decisive stage. It is estimated that once operational, the project will generate an annual output value of around 16 billion yuan and tax revenues of 1.7 billion yuan. Beiyou Engineering stated that it will continue to stay focused on its goals, work together with the construction parties to accelerate progress, ensure the safe and high-quality completion of the project, and help advance China’s energy and chemical industry toward higher standards and greater sustainability.
