On May 18, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued its approval regarding the environmental impact report for the Coal-to-Olefins Upgrade Demonstration Project of Sinopec Great Wall Energy & Chemical (Inner Mongolia) Co., Ltd. Located in the Dalu Industrial Park in Zhungeer Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, this project uses coal as raw material and employs processes such as pulverized coal gasification, shift reaction, purification, methanol synthesis, and methanol-to-olefins conversion; it also incorporates green hydrogen in the olefins production process, resulting in the construction of a new coal-to-olefins facility with an annual capacity of 800,000 tons. The project design calls for 3.332 million tons of raw coal per year, as well as 7.7415 million cubic meters of fresh water per year. The main projects of the plant primarily include 12 production units, namely air separation, coal gasification, shift conversion, acid gas removal, refrigeration and compression, methanol synthesis, sulfur recovery, methanol-to-olefins, loop reactor polypropylene, gas-phase polypropylene, polyethylene, and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer/low-density polyethylene (EVA/LDPE) ； Auxiliary engineering includes gas boilers, water supply and drainage systems, flare systems, etc ； Storage and transportation engineering includes coal transmission and storage systems, tank farms, and finished product warehouses, etc ； Environmental protection engineering mainly includes exhaust gas treatment facilities, wastewater treatment and reuse facilities, and solid waste treatment facilities, etc. The main products of the project are 450,000 tons per year of polypropylene, 350,000 tons per year of polyethylene, and 100,000 tons per year of EVA/LDPE; the main by-products include sulfur, among others.
