As of May 2026, the substation for the water electrolysis hydrogen production unit in the second phase of the Yulin Chemical project, constructed by the Shaanxi branch, completed its pouring work successfully, achieving the goal one day ahead of the original schedule. Hydrogen production via water electrolysis began in March 2026. According to a report by Northern Engineering Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. in October 2025, the project for producing hydrogen through water electrolysis as part of the Yulin Chemical Phase II project was awarded to a consortium composed of Northern Design Institute and Sinochem 11th Construction Company, under an EPC turnkey contract. Hydrogen production by electrolyzing water involves electrolyzing demineralized water, separating and purifying it, as well as compressing the hydrogen, in order to produce high-quality hydrogen and oxygen for use in downstream applications. The plant capacity is 12,000 m3/h for hydrogen and 6,000 m3/h for oxygen.
