Hello everyone. Our plant uses the Carousel 2000 process, with two sets in operation. Two months ago, the second set of secondary sedimentation tanks stopped working for some reason, which led to a halt in water inflow for that entire set. Now they have resumed operation, but due to improper adjustments, all the stagnant water from the secondary sedimentation tanks was transferred to the first oxidation ditch; as a result, the sludge concentration in the first oxidation ditch is only 3100. The oxidation ditch is now filled with black sludge, and the effluent is turbid. Currently, the COD concentration of the incoming water is around 100, and the settling ratio is about 50%. Is it appropriate to stop water supply for aeration and increase sludge removal? Can adding chemicals improve it?
If it is urgent to have qualified water output, a small amount of chemical can be added to ensure that the output meets the standards. Stop water supply and aerate, increase sludge removal – this is a more reliable approach.
1. Stop or reduce water inflow, and increase aeration to raise dissolved oxygen levels; 2. Enhance sludge removal; once dissolved oxygen levels recover, gradually increase the inflow of water or add nutrients to facilitate the renewal of the sludge as soon as possible ; 3. Reduce the retention time in the secondary sedimentation tank, and add an appropriate amount of PAM to aid flocculation ; 4. If the quality of the effluent is poor and affects discharge, it can be pumped to the inlet of another line.
For now, refrain from sludge removal and instead carry out aeration for 48 hours, just as in the initial stage of biochemical startup cultivation, to see if there is any improvement. I hope this will be helpful to you.
