As the title suggests: Should the safety valve of a distillation tower be installed at the top of the tower or at the outlet of the heater? Are there any rules or strict regulations? Put the material prone to clogging at the heater outlet, and the clean solvent at the top of the tower, or something like that? Or, as a precaution, install a heating outlet? I want to find a reason to convince myself.
Let me analyze it: with high pressure applied, which equipment is at risk? Since the reboiler can withstand higher pressure than the tower, it follows that the tower is in danger; it is the tower that needs to be depressurized. Therefore, the safety valve should be installed at the top of the tower, where the vapor exits. I earnestly request the master’s guidance

Ours are generally installed on the vapor lines at the top of the tower; we’ve never seen any installed at the outlet of the reboiler. Negative-pressure towers don’t require safety valves at the top, but even our negative-pressure towers have safety valves installed!
Our negative pressure tower is also equipped with a safety valve, as there is still a risk of overpressure as long as heating steam is present.
