I’ve just started learning self-control; I’m not proficient in English, and it’s very difficult for me to learn self-control. I don’t know what level of English is needed so that it won’t be too hard?
Level 6 is still needed; otherwise, I won’t be able to understand the literature
English is important in the automation industry, but it is not required for every related position. If the localization is done well, it’s enough to look at the Chinese version. However, when it comes to imported equipment, English is still the primary source of information. In that case, the level should be described as “able to read English materials proficiently”; if working requires communication with foreign companies, “a certain ability in English conversation” is also necessary.

Trying to work with automation without knowing English is like fighting someone armed with a gun using just a stick – you’re bound to get beaten up. At the very least, one should be able to understand the general meaning of English materials. If you’re good at English, you can earn a decent amount working for foreigners. Personal opinion, for reference only.
I used to work in an automation services department; this company was involved in the supply of imported equipment along with after-sales support. Since communication between the AB PLCs and DCS systems was an issue, and the programming for communication with those PLCs posed problems, it took a lot of effort to communicate with the foreign experts in order to resolve this issue. Given that imported equipment plays a key role in such operations, knowing a foreign language related to automation is still necessary today.
