I have just switched from HVAC to automation control, and I’m not very familiar with many things; I would like to ask everyone for advice: In the data sheet of pressure transmitters, there are two installation methods – vertical installation and direct short installation. What is the difference between them? Could you recommend any catalogs or specifications regarding the installation of instruments? Thank you.
Short installation refers to direct installation on the process pipeline in place. Pillar installation involves placing a 2\" welded steel pipe near the process pipeline as an installation pillar, and then using the 2\" pipe clamps provided with the transmitter to mount the transmitter on that pillar.
The requirements for instrument installation should be referred to in HG/T 20505–20516, 20699, 20700–2014, namely HG/T 20507–2014 Installation Manual and HG/T 21581–2010 Automation Installation Manual, which are part of the \"Regulations for Chemical Process Automation Design\"

It is related to the installation height of the transmitter; too high a height makes it difficult to observe the display and carry out maintenance.

It is usually installed on the ground or a platform surface. It is usually installed directly on the pipeline because it is prone to clogging.
The column can be installed away from the process environment, allowing for a straightforward installation that is less prone to clogging; however, attention must be paid to the medium temperature and the surrounding pipelines
Some design institutes have their own installation diagrams; the installation of transmitters depends on the type of medium involved. In the case of gases, they should be installed above the point where the sample is taken. Generally, the installation height for vertical columns is 1200 units, and if this requirement cannot be met when measuring gases, a shorter installation height is used.
