Hello, dear sea friends. Our company produces antibacterial drugs, and the reactions involved take place under strong acidic conditions. After the reaction, the aqueous solution is a salt-acid solution; subsequently, sodium hydroxide is used to neutralize the salt acid to form sodium chloride. But this sodium chloride is difficult to sell. I think there is a chlor-alkali plant near our company; could we sell this salt to them? But I’m not sure if it meets the requirements for salts used in the chlor-alkali industry. What do you think?
The key question is: what are the other components in the solution besides sodium chloride? Chlor-alkali processes have very strict requirements regarding the quality of brine; other components present in the solution can affect the quality of the brine, which in turn can impact the safe operation of the electrolyzer, and that is not acceptable.
The by-product salts generated from pharmaceutical intermediates are not suitable for use in chlor-alkali production, as these salts contain large amounts of high-molecular-weight, difficult-to-degrade organic substances, and have a complex composition. Their impact on ion exchange membranes and coatings is unknown, posing significant risks when used. Only if considering the removal of these components results in a concentration below 10PPm can it be considered acceptable. According to the poster, this reaction takes place under strongly acidic conditions; there may also be some heavy metal ions present. After the active pharmaceutical ingredients are extracted, these dissolved components no longer require any further processing, and they end up as waste salts. Who would dare to use such salts without knowing anything about them? Unless it can be proven to have been refined to the required standard, no one will accept it as a gift, let alone pay money to buy it. . . . . .
It’s likely difficult to sell it; the ion membranes used in chlor-alkali production have quite high requirements regarding the quality of salt.

A comprehensive analysis of the composition of the resulting salt should be carried out, and discussions should be held with the chlor-alkali plant based on the quality requirements for brine and salt in the chlor-alkali production process. Just saying it is useless; data is what matters. In other words, it is intended to be used as a chemical raw material, so it needs to meet the standards and specifications for chemical raw materials.
