For this unit, the return line at the outlet of the liquid sulfur pump is shared by both pumps. Although no problems have been encountered so far, there is concern that if this shared return line becomes clogged or if there are issues with the return valve, it could be difficult to resolve such problems So I would like to ask everyone: do you have any good ways to prevent problems from arising in this process?
We share it as well, and there have been no problems.
A few days ago, the return line valve here got stuck, which caused the pressure at the pump outlet to rise significantly; we were worried that the pump might get damaged!
Ours is also controlled by a pressure-controlled valve, and there have been no problems in 5 years.

It’s the liquid sulfur pump. . . Steam insulation, right? . As long as the steam keeps coming. . As long as it doesn’t solidify, there’s no problem at all. . .
We also have a return line, and no problems have occurred there so far. Ball valves generally don’t get stuck, right? Could it be an issue with the heating system? Is your return line always open? Why is there pressure buildup in the pump? Is there an obstruction in the backflow path?
We also share the same return line for pressure control; a minimum opening value for the valve on the return line has been specified, so there should be no issues.
The main concern is that if the return line fails, excessive pressure could damage the pump; repairing a liquid sulfur pump is a very tricky problem!
If you are truly concerned, you can try adding a stream of nitrogen back into the line; after each shutdown of the liquid sulfur pump, push the remaining liquid sulfur in the pipeline toward the forming and packaging machine.
