We have a centrifugal pump that uses two-stage mechanical seals in series. A few days ago, the seal in the first stage started leaking, so it was replaced. After the replacement, the seal continued to make a whistling sound, quite loud and continuous. However, the temperature of the seal wasn’t high, around 50 degrees. The mechanic couldn’t identify the cause and kept suggesting that we wet the belt. Could anyone help analyze whether this is an installation issue or a problem related to operation?
Are you sure the sound is coming from inside the mechanical seal? I have dealt with the issue before, where the bearing dust covers and the bearing caps were too close to each other, causing friction and noise

What does it mean to keep watering the belt? It is best to clarify the operating conditions, the specific type of mechanical seal, the flushing method, etc., so that everyone can carry out an analysis. Is the tone audio very stable, or does its volume fluctuate?

It’s possible that the setting screw of the mechanical seal on the shaft isn’t tightened properly, causing it to rotate along with the shaft.
Is it the sound coming from the mechanical seal? If the friction pair is made of such a material, its service life will definitely not be good
