It depends on your needs. As mentioned above, if it’s for shutting down operations and purging pipelines, the purpose is usually to replace the contents or clear the lines, so I think blasting isn’t necessary. If it is a new pipeline with residues such as slag, animal carcasses, tools, etc., then blasting and purging are required. Our construction team once left brooms inside the pipelines.

Some process systems cannot be supplied with steam, and using air does not provide sufficient flow rate; therefore, it is indeed impossible to carry out a purge using blast.
For levels above 3B, blasting is used, as it yields good results for purging; however, blasting is not mandatory. If conditions permit, steam or compressed air can also be used for purging – the choice should be based on the actual situation!
Blasting purging is required; this allows for the removal of residues that cannot be cleared through normal purging, and target testing must also be carried out.
The blasting purge method is typically used for large-diameter pipes or those with many bends and branches, where dirt is difficult to remove. In this method, one end of the pipe is sealed with a low-strength blast disc, and a compressor is used to inflate the pipe and increase its pressure. When the pressure reaches a certain level, the blast disc ruptures, and the impurities inside the pipe are carried out by the high-speed airflow.
