After the issue was resolved through emergency repairs, the plant’s management decided to hold an award ceremony. Is this appropriate?
It’s not quite appropriate; a small bonus given privately would be sufficient as an acknowledgment.
I think it’s not appropriate; some root cause analysis, as well as discussions and sharing of lessons learned, could be carried out.
This was itself an accident; what’s the point of holding a celebration ceremony? There’s not even time for punishment, and any recognition can simply be shown in the form of a salary or bonus

It shouldn’t be called an award ceremony; terms such as an accident summary or a report on accident handling would be more appropriate. It’s also good to recognize in a timely manner those individuals who performed well in emergency repairs and rescue efforts! But the person responsible must be dealt with. Only in this way can it serve as a warning to prevent similar accidents from occurring again. If it’s just a recognition ceremony, it will lead everyone to have even more wrong ideas.
