The hazards of too rapid descent of the floating roof in oil tanks – it’s best to have evidence-based information
It depends on the amount of nitrogen or sealing gas used for compensation; in some cases, the system is connected directly to the atmosphere. If the amount of nitrogen or sealing gas added is not sufficient to maintain the positive pressure on the floating roof, it can easily cause the tank to deform. We have actually experienced such an incident! The latter hasn’t shown any signs of being faulty yet
Is it directly connected to the atmosphere, with a flame arrester of some kind installed! A too rapid drop can only be due to a high flow rate in the pipeline; the hazard I can think of is that static electricity is likely to be generated in the pipeline
It is mainly for the purpose of preventing the storage tank from collapsing and deforming.
