How does everyone carry it out? Should the distance between storage tanks be determined solely in accordance with the Petrochemical Regulations, by simply adding a dike between the two tanks? Or should we first consider the distance between the tank and the dike (treated as a fire dike, as the regulations do not specify a requirement for the distance between a tank and such a dike), and only then consider the distance between that dike and the adjacent tank? The former approach complies with the Petrochemical Regulations, meets safety requirements, and also saves space. Because the safety regulations do not specify any requirements regarding distance. The latter approach is safer, but it takes up too much space. What do everyone else do?
The single tank and single dike design is mainly to address the issue of chain reactions, I guess
Fire dikes are installed in accordance with regulatory requirements. The purpose of these dikes is to separate the oil tanks, so there are no specific requirements regarding their location; it is sufficient to separate the oil tanks as long as the layout of the pipelines is not affected
Dikes do not have the issue of spacing from storage tanks, and cannot be equated with fire dikes.
The effective volume within the fire dike and partition dike shall comply with the following requirements: 1. The effective volume within the fire dike shall not be less than the volume of the largest tank in the tank farm; when floating-roof or internal floating-roof tank farms cannot meet this requirement, an accident storage tank shall be installed to hold the remaining volume, but the effective volume within the fire dike of the tank farm shall not be less than half of the volume of the largest tank in the tank farm; 2. The effective volume within the dike should not be less than 10% of the volume of the largest storage tank inside the dike. 3. The distance between the fire dike and the storage tank should be determined based on the tank model selected. As shown in the table below, the fire separation distances between adjacent above-ground storage tanks containing flammable liquids within the same tank farm: Category, Tank type – Fixed-roof tanks, Floating-roof and internal floating-roof tanks, Horizontal tanks. ≤1000 m3, >1000 m3; Classes A-B and B: 0.75D, 0.6D, 0.4D, 0.8m; Class C-A: 0.4D; Class C-B: 2m, 5m
Article 2: The effective volume within the dike shall not be less than 10% of the volume of the largest storage tank within the dike. Is it also in the Petrochemical Regulations?
The regulations issued by the Work Safety Administration are simply absurd – one order after another, without any consideration for economic or technical considerations. They think they’re doing something great, but unfortunately, safety accidents keep occurring, and they’re often serious ones
Using a single tank and a single dike is not practical; it’s an impossible task. We must follow the standards, not make decisions based on arbitrary choices by leaders!
