I’d like to discuss with everyone a rather common question: when inserting screws, should the washer (referring to a standard flat washer) be placed on the side of the nut or on the side of the screw? Is there any clear specification in the machinery industry regarding this?
The purpose of using flat gaskets is to protect the components being connected. Depending on the intended use and conditions, gaskets are needed whenever the components require protection (such as on the surfaces of critical parts, or when the contact area between the components is small and the stress levels are high). . . . ), flat shims can be added to all of them.
That’s the principle, but generally, when shims are used, they’re rarely added on both sides of the nut and bolt, right? Or it can be said that when tightening the bolts, which side is being tightened and which side should have the gasket placed
This situation does exist, but not always; it is still aimed at improving stress distribution and protecting the components.
When there is only one gasket, place it on the side that will be tightened in order to prevent frictional damage to the joint during rotation; it is usually placed on the side of the nut.
A single washer is placed on the side close to the nut; if there is a spring washer, it is placed between the washer and the nut. Nuts generally rotate, and when tightened in this manner, they do not damage the fastened component.
