The support plate at the floating head end of a floating-head heat exchanger is provided to support the relatively heavy floating head. In areas outside the support plate, whether it is a full-disc or ring-shaped plate, the material in the shell side constitutes a stagnant zone with no flow. However, I notice that when designing floating-head heat exchangers, people include in the calculation of the heat exchange area the area between the support plate and the floating head; in fact, this should not be done. How do everyone think about design?
To calculate the heat exchange area, the length of the heat exchange tubes that are not involved in heat exchange must be deducted; therefore, it is necessary to determine whether the area outside the support plates at the floating head end of the floating-head heat exchanger achieves heat exchange effects
