Recently, an organic liquid storage tank with a capacity of around 500 M³ was designed. During the hot summer months, the temperature of the liquid rises rapidly, which poses significant challenges to both safety and operations. In summer, cooling measures must be added – should we use sprinklers, apply cooling gel, or use coiled tubes?» The collection of spray water and the prolonged spraying time result in an unattractive appearance on the outer surface of the tank. Are there any standard references for designing coiled tubes? Are there now some rules that prevent the use of internal coils? Are there any special requirements regarding the water quality of the coil?
I also hope that someone with experience can analyze it and determine what cooling method is appropriate for different operating conditions

For cryogenic storage media, the design pressure of the storage tanks is generally determined based on the saturated pressure of the medium at around 50 degrees Celsius (at least the local extreme temperatures must be taken into account). This relates to the design pressure of the equipment, and it is intended to handle abnormal situations. For normal operating pressure, of course, such cooling is taken into account. For outdoor use, the main facilities include insulation materials, sun protection coatings, and sprinkling systems. For example, liquid gas cylinders – years ago, sprinkling systems were used quite often in the summer; but over the past few years, they have been abandoned as the quality of sun protection coatings has improved, yielding very good results. ——But the spray pipe is still there, just in case.
Is a 500-cubic unit also cooled using a jacket? This investment is quite substantial~

The cost of coiled tubes is also quite high; for simply cooling down, using sunproof paint along with a spray system should be sufficient
The coil is used for cooling; it is advisable to have mixing or external circulation of the material inside the tank, as heat transfer through natural convection is slow otherwise. Hot materials have a low density and rise upward, which further hinders heat dissipation
What can be seen on site is a spray pipe with cooling paint applied to its wall; in some cases, there might also be a sunshade added.
Add a heat exchanger, use a pump for circulation, install a thermometer at the outlet of the heat exchanger, add control valves to the water circulating through the heat exchanger, and the storage tank also needs to be modified slightly. Our company already has such a system in use, and it works very well
The best solution is to add coils, preferably made of stainless steel – it’s cost-effective and practical!
