Calculation of economic insulation thickness

RT: In the chemical process design manual, the economic thickness method is used to calculate the insulation thickness; the average temperature is selected when determining the thermal conductivity of the insulation material. The ambient temperature should not be the same as the outer surface temperature of the pipe insulation. Which one should be used to calculate the average temperature? Of course, the calculation results of the two may not differ much.
