Some positive-displacement rotor pumps can be reversed, allowing the inlet and outlet positions to be swapped, such as peristaltic pumps. Moreover, the flow rate of such pumps is generally not very high; a flow rate of a few dozen cubic meters would be considered good.
It still depends on your own needs. The most basic requirement is that if the flow rates and head requirements for filling and emptying the tank are similar, it is possible to use one pump ; If the difference is large, it’s better to use different pumps.
Are the flow rates and parameters of the inlet pump and the outlet pump the same? If it’s possible, a pump that can be used in either inlet or outlet mode can be employed; the advantage is cost savings. However, wear and tear over time increases, so it is recommended to use two pumps – this way, if one pump fails, there is another one available as a replacement, preventing disruptions in operation
