The designs where butterfly valves are used feature large necking sections; what is the purpose of such a design? What are the diameter reduction requirements for pipeline butterfly valves?
Is it mainly the price that is a concern? As long as the traffic requirements are met, it’s okay if the data transfer speed is a bit higher
Personally, I think it’s sufficient as long as the opening degree of the valve meets the requirements. The disc of a butterfly valve is much larger than that of other types of valves; for valves of the same size, the disc of a butterfly valve is relatively larger. Moreover, larger valves come at a much higher price. For thin pipelines, butterfly valves with a similar diameter are generally used – just for reference, hehe
In practice, such a design has not been seen; butterfly valves typically have straight pipes running through them, especially wafer-type butterfly valves
Well, in our unit we use 80-mm diameter pipes, and clamped fittings are used – they’re the same size as the pipes. The person who posted the question said that their unit uses pipes with varying diameters; perhaps the pipes there are thicker. This is just my guess based on what I understand, and the answer is for reference only, hehe
Butterfly valves result in low pressure drop; after calculating the pipeline system, if the pressure drop is acceptable, using a reduced-diameter pipe can save money. But it is rarely done.
