Distillation tower: what to do if the packing is clogged?
The filler is clogged; there’s nothing much that can be done about it. Generally, it is the lower part that gets blocked; depending on the properties of the substance causing the blockage, acidic or alkaline aqueous solutions are used for steaming or flushing from top to bottom, or steam can be used directly for flushing.
Steam cleaning, acid and alkali washing; if that doesn’t work, it has to be removed and replaced.
Rinse with water or weak acids and weak bases; this is usually done by adding the rinse agent at the feed pump or from the reflux tank. After rinsing, bring the mixture to a boil, and finally ensure that all wastewater is removed. Pay attention to the recovery of the materials used to avoid environmental damage
If the blockage is severe, the cleaning effect is likely to be poor. If it affects the quality and yield, it is recommended to replace it directly!
