This is a problem of reaction engineering scaling. Let’s see how you guys scale up the reactor. If you consider the reactor of that type to be well-developed, then focus directly on the properties of the catalyst to be used in the process, such as catalyst scale-up performance, activity, and stability. The following are the situations of an immature reactor. If it is a model scaling up, it depends on whether the mathematical model used in the pilot scale tests can successfully predict the behavior in the pilot plant. If it is an experience-based amplification, consider whether amplification effects such as yield and selectivity are acceptable. If it is a scaling criterion, check whether the scaling criterion is consistent with the results obtained from pilot tests, whether the dimensionless numbers used in the criterion are appropriate, and whether there are any comparison variables that have not been taken into account or were ignored initially as being of no significant impact. Furthermore, pilot testing has other functions; in this way, it is actually possible to use other methods for research, or to assess aspects that are already well-established, such as whether the control methods are appropriate, whether the material selection is suitable, and the selection of instruments, etc.
