How do circulating fluidized bed boilers prevent the steam drum from going ‘dry’ in the event of a loss of plant power?
Close the blower and exhaust doors to stop feeding material, and close the main steam valve and water supply valve.
1. Immediately and urgently suppress the fire; avoid opening the vent to the atmosphere and the drain valves as much as possible to keep the drum pressure under control. 2. If plant power cannot be restored in a short time, the slag can be discharged.
There is usually a DCS interlock in place: in the event of an emergency power outage, the material supply is stopped and the fans are shut down; when the level in the steam drum falls below the LL level, a backup emergency feed water pump is activated
