In a broad sense, the process in which more than two substances combine to form a homogeneous phase in molecular form is called dissolution. In a narrow sense, dissolution refers to the process in which a liquid undergoes a chemical reaction with a solid/liquid/gas, causing it to turn into a homogeneous phase in molecular form; this is what is meant by dissolution.
