Since sodium chloride exists in ionic form in water (at concentrations below saturation), there is one sodium ion for every chlorine ion, and the concentration of sodium chloride is therefore equal to the concentration of chlorine ions. The sodium sulfate concentration is calculated based on the sodium ion concentration: (74600 – 23000)/2 = 25800. (Two sodium ions correspond to one sulfate ion); there are also additional sulfate ions in the water, amounting to 114000 – 25800 = 88200. This indicates that there are other cations present in the water, or sulfuric acid as well
What is the pH value of water? If the pH value is low, it may indicate high levels of sulfate ions; moreover, other metal ions cannot be ruled out； If the PH is not low or is relatively high, it indicates the presence of other metal ions or ammonia.
