I’ve been working with instruments – simple tasks like selecting models and drawing layout diagrams; I have no knowledge of control systems at all. I want to learn about them but don’t know where to start. How should one begin with so many different control systems? ?
There are no standalone instruments; instruments rely on the process, and the same is true for control. Start by learning with the simple S7 200 and S7 300 models*. Take a look at the processes you have designed, and imagine how they would be programmed using a PLC or DCS. You can use the examples included in Siemens’ software; these usually come with annotations, and you can test things out using simulators. It’s easy to get started; what remains is the accumulation of experience over time and continuous learning.
Instrumentation is based on the process; control instruments are inseparable from it – they form one system with different focuses.
It is recommended to start with Honeywell’s HC900, as it is easier to get started with. With Siemens, it is more difficult for beginners
