In the hydrogenation reaction and distillation combined furnace, it was observed that the negative pressure before the preheater fluctuated significantly between -250 and -350 Pa; at the same time, the negative pressure inside the furnace also fluctuated. The field operator was called to the site, and it was found that one burner in the distillation furnace had stopped working. After the operator closed the manual valve for that burner, the negative pressure stabilized, and the temperature inside the furnace began to drop. My assumption is that although the burner stopped functioning, gas from that area still entered the furnace, where it might burn or explode, thereby causing severe fluctuations in the negative pressure inside the furnace. This is why the furnace temperature managed to remain stable. I’m not sure if this is correct; I’m new to this field – I used to work in the benzene refrigeration department and have no experience operating furnaces. I appreciate any guidance you can provide
Firstly, the negative pressure in the furnace is affected by air pressure; on rainy days, the air density increases, leading to an increase in negative pressure. Secondly, the negative pressure is influenced by the exhaust fan and the blower, as well as by the flue dampers and air valves. Under normal operation, the exhaust fan drives the blower, resulting in normal negative pressure. Thirdly, fluctuations in gas and fuel levels affect negative pressure; as the values of these two variables increase, negative pressure decreases under otherwise constant conditions. It is necessary to adjust the openings of the dampers and air valves again. If this does not yield significant results, then the frequency of operation of the exhaust fans and blowers should be adjusted. These are just my humble opinions; I welcome any corrections. The situation described by the poster is what constitutes a flash explosion. Flash explosions generally occur when there is insufficient air, and they are accompanied by a loud noise; if these conditions are not present, it is not a flash explosion.
