If the design pressure of a vertical container is 1 MPa, it operates at room temperature, has a diameter of 2000 mm and a height of 10000 mm. Then its testing pressure would be 1.25 MPa. If this container is placed in a horizontal position for the hydrostatic test, its testing pressure would be P = 1.25 + 0.1 = 1.35 MPa. When entering the testing pressure in the calculation sheet, should 1.25 MPa or 1.35 MPa be used? I would appreciate it if members could share their approaches. Thank you in advance.

When using SW6 for calculations, only one value can be entered in the test pressure field – should it be 1.35 MPa or 1.25 MPa?
It should be filled in under the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid column; the test pressure SW6 will be generated automatically
1.25 MPa will be automatically generated within SW6.

Is there hydrostatic pressure inside SW6?
It is better to clarify things if possible; for example, specify “test at 1.25 MPa in vertical position / test at 1.35 MPa in horizontal position”, or set the pressure for the horizontal test at 1.35 MPa
In SW6, you use the vertical vessel module to calculate the hydrostatic test, so SW automatically generates 1.25 MPa as the hydrostatic test value for vertical vessels, without taking into account the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid. If you are conducting a horizontal hydrostatic test, the static liquid pressure must be taken into account; therefore, the pressure for a horizontal hydrostatic test is 1.35 Mpa.
For SW6, a vertical vessel is selected; when entering the data, there is a field for the hydrostatic pressure on the cylinder and the head, to which 0.1 MPa should be entered, and then the value for the pressure test will be obtained.
You also need to check the stress during the hydrostatic test of the head, so 1.35 MPa must be entered in the calculation sheet
