Do gas chromatographs and liquid chromatographs need to be calibrated with standard gases and standards before each use?
That’s not necessarily the case; it depends first on whether your analysis project requires calibration of the analyzer. For some gas-phase analysis methods, the correction factor approach can be used, which eliminates the need for calibration steps. For liquid chromatography, calibration is not required either if certain special detectors are used. Alternatively, you can simply perform standard sample calibration only for the analytical components that interest you.
First, determine the analysis method you are using to decide whether a standard sample is needed; the external standard method yields more accurate results whenever a standard sample is used
There is no need to calibrate every time; calibrate once every 2 weeks. If the measured component is inaccurate, it must be calibrated.
