I need help determining whether the channel steel inside the platforms of pumps, unit oil stations, etc. should be completely filled with grout No photos were taken; those who work with this equipment should know what it means. The chassis is delivered by the manufacturer empty, mainly for ease of transportation. However, all of them are equipped with grouting holes. For grouting to be effective, the chassis must be level and in stable contact with the foundation; the grouting should be even and thorough, with no areas that remain unsupported. It prevents the formation of internal voids, which could cause misalignment of the unit due to vibrations and other factors during operation.
I consulted Sulzer experts, as our pumps are quite large – the volume of the foundation base is 2.3 cubic meters – and there are 18 such pumps in total. The experts from Sulzer replied that, in principle, there is no need for filling, but during operation, if the vibration levels exceed the limits, it is necessary to fill it with shrinkage-free cement. For this very reason, during factory testing, pumps are generally required not to have their pedestals grouted. During the implementation process, they are generally filled to capacity.
