The future of those working on ERP in chemical companies

ERP is something from abroad; people in China are learning it. It seems like a good thing, but in practice it’s quite complicated. It makes things easier for managers, but those who handle the actual tasks have to work twice as hard. Let’s take our time with this.

ERP is currently used more for finance and procurement, while it is still less utilized in workshops.

I don’t know if those who work on ERP in chemical companies have a bright future

There is no specific role dedicated to ERP; it simply adds some workload to the employees who were already in charge of the same area of business.

Implementing ERP is aimed at improving efficiency, but I’m not sure if it’s possible to evaluate performance based on such improvements.

An ERP system is a management platform based on information technology, which employs systematic management concepts to provide decision-making tools for corporate executives and employees. It is a next-generation integrated management information system that evolved from MRP (Material Requirements Planning); it expands the functions of MRP, with supply chain management as its core concept. It goes beyond the boundaries of traditional enterprises and optimizes a company’s resources from a supply chain perspective. The ERP system combines information technology with advanced management concepts, serving as the operational model for modern enterprises. It reflects the demands of the times for companies to allocate resources efficiently in order to create maximum social wealth, and it constitutes the foundation for enterprises to survive and thrive in the information age. It plays a significant role in improving corporate business processes and enhancing a company’s core competitiveness.

The workshop is also useful for things like requisitioning raw materials, recording the inflow and outflow of finished and semi-finished products, and managing material codes, among other things.

In simple terms, ERP is about integrating a company’s logistics, capital flow, and information flow into one system. Those responsible for implementing ERP systems must first sort out the various processes within the company, and use ERP to transform different workflows into the necessary data and information. Therefore, those who can master the company’s ERP system are indispensable talents for the enterprise. However, in reality, when it comes to implementing ERP, for managers in various departments, since ERP disrupts traditional or conventional management methods, the ERP administrators are seen as troublemakers who are not well-liked. As a result, once ERP is put into use and the members of the ERP team return to their own departments, they usually disappear without a trace.

For chemical companies to implement ERP is theoretically a good thing, though the implementation process takes time. Users at all levels may not be clear about their actual needs; it involves hidden work. When the company is doing well, there’s no mention of how useful ERP is, but when things go wrong, it might be one of the first things to be cut. If the relevant management systems and people’s mindset do not keep up, it is nothing but a decoration. Doing ERP development falls under the core business of IT companies; it’s not as important in other types of companies.
