I have a pH meter used for testing wastewater. The problem is that when the probe is used with the standard solution, the readings obtained are pretty much identical to the values of the standard solution itself; calibration also works fine. However, once the probe is inserted into the pipeline and the pump is started, the readings become lower (compared to the values obtained through laboratory sampling and analysis). I’m not sure what could be causing this :'(
Could it be that there’s an issue with the test results?
Does the medium in the pipeline remain the same after it is taken out?
Inaccurate online pH readings are indeed a common issue, and it’s closely related to the installation; I’m not sure what the specific installation method in place is
I also think the installation location plays a big role; try changing it to another place.
The liquid you are measuring is a mixture, right? Is there any other liquid with a high concentration of hydrogen ions or hydroxide ions mixed in?
Data fluctuations in online pH meters are normal; of course, they are also related to the installation location and method. The flow rate of the medium also affects pH; additionally, poor grounding of the pipelines and excessively low conductivity of the medium can also cause pH fluctuations. It’s hard to judge just by talking about measuring fluctuations. It is better to clarify the specific details, including the medium conditions and process parameters.

I contacted the manufacturer’s engineer, and he told me that the zero drift is above the normal range, being less than 6; therefore, the probe needs to be replaced. I still don’t understand it – could someone with expertise explain it to me?
What the manufacturer means is that this pH probe is not suitable for the current operating conditions; in my opinion, this probe can only measure values greater than 6.
