We’re preparing to conduct a drill, and we tested the fire hydrant – the water that came out smelled terrible. The problem is that the water in the fire tank remains stagnant; it’s dead water that emits an unpleasant odor. I would like to ask everyone: what is the status of the fire water tank in your company? Besides changing the water frequently (as it results in high costs), what other measures can be taken to address the problem of bad odor? ? ? ?
Change the water frequently; replace it as well if there is excessive consumption
We use two fire water storage tanks with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters each. In practice, it is required to use fire hoses for inspections on a weekly basis; for the low-pressure fire protection system, we share it with the plant’s domestic fresh water supply system.
What was said on the third floor is correct: fire water and fresh water are shared, including the water used for replenishing the circulation system. This way, the water in the fire tank remains fresh. Normally, only the fresh water pump needs to be turned on, with its outlet connected to the fire protection pipeline; this keeps pressure low in the pipeline. In an emergency, turning on the fire pump immediately creates the necessary pressure. The fire pump can remain off at normal times, thereby saving electricity. However, the fire pump inlet must be a separate pipeline; it is best not to combine it with the fresh water pump inlet line.
Is it because the water in the fire tank smells bad? If the pipes are not clean, the water in them will also start to smell after staying there for a while. The fire water system should be tested regularly, so the water won’t smell bad.
