The vertical distance from the surface of the crane’s concrete foundation or the top surface of its travel tracks to the hook is called the lifting height. Cranes with different luffing mechanisms have varying lifting heights; for example, the maximum lifting height of a crane with a trolley-type luffing mechanism cannot be changed ； The lifting height of a jib-mounted crane can vary depending on the amplitude; at the minimum amplitude, this lifting height can be several dozen meters higher than the top of the crane. Therefore, tower cranes with pitch variation in the lifting height have the advantage. When the tower crane is raised to its maximum lifting height, no attachment is required; under normal conditions it can lift up to 40 meters, which is sufficient to meet the construction needs of buildings with a low to medium number of floors. To prevent accidents caused by the hook rising to a height that could damage the equipment, it is required that each tower crane be equipped with a height limiter; this device automatically shuts off the power supply for lifting when the hook reaches a distance of 1-2 meters from the boom, thereby preventing further upward movement of the hook.
