I would like to ask an expert: 1. I’m not clear about the difference between a grounding device and an antistatic device. For example, the copper wire connected to the flanges of combustible gas pipelines can be considered an antistatic device; if this wire is then connected to the ground, does it become a grounding device for antistatic purposes? 2. Both the hydrogen tank and the ammonia tank have flat steel bars connected to their support points; can these be considered as static discharge grounding devices? As for the air tank, there are no flat steel bars connected to its support points – can its support be regarded as a grounding device as well? Thank you.
Answering your second question: supports cannot be counted, because grounding needs to be buried at a certain depth below the ground surface
If the supports are taken into account, then there’s no need to ground the oil storage tank anymore. I’m currently modifying the existing grounding system; it’s quite troublesome
1. Grounding can serve to conduct static electricity, as well as lightning. 2. The flat steel you mentioned is likely the ground plate, which serves the same purpose as described in point 1. Without a ground plate, the support cannot be used as a grounding device, as the resistance would be too high; it’s similar to the situation with pipe flanges. If static electricity needs to be dissipated, something for that purpose is still required, and there are also requirements regarding resistance.
