The permissible concentration for short-term exposure, also known as PC-STEL, is relatively higher than that for long-term exposure; the exposure time is usually 15 minutes, which is then converted into an 8-hour time-weighted concentration value. The short-term exposure value is generally higher than the PC-TWA exposure value
PEC-TWA: Time-weighted average permissible concentration, which is the average allowable exposure concentration over an 8-hour workday and a 40-hour workweek, with time used as the weighting factor. PC-STEL: Concentration permitted for short-term exposure, the concentration allowed for short-term (15 min) exposure under the condition of complying with PEC-TWA. MAC: Maximum Allowable Concentration, the concentration of toxic chemicals that should not be exceeded at the workplace at any time during a working day. There is also another less common noun. IDLH: Concentration that poses an immediate threat to life and health.
