Differences between catalysis and coking in terms of product yield, product quality, and reaction principles: Reaction principle: Catalytic cracking involves reactions between a catalyst and crude oil under specific temperature and pressure conditions; these reactions are primarily cracking reactions that result in the production of gasoline, diesel, and gases, with dry gas and coke as by-products. Coking, on the other hand, involves reactions mainly of thermal cracking, which are physical reactions. Product yield: The products of catalysis are stable gasoline, liquefied gas, and catalytic diesel, with an overall yield of over 80%. The products of coking include coked liquefied gas, coked diesel, coked wax oil, and coke. Product quality: Catalytic diesel can be sold directly, while stable gasoline is sent to a gasoline hydrogenation unit for further desulfurization; liquefied gas is sent to a refining system for desulfurization before being fed into a gas fractionation unit for further separation. For coking products, coked gasoline and coked diesel are sent to a diesel hydrogenation unit for further desulfurization, coked liquefied gas is sent to a refining unit for desulfurization before being fed into a gas fractionation unit for further separation, and coke can be sold directly
From an environmental perspective, it is difficult to meet the environmental standards for coking; few new facilities choose to build coking units.
Some of the refineries around me have started to dismantle their coking units, and after that, they are building residue hydrogenation units
