The 5110 stainless steel water ring vacuum pump from Zibo, Shandong, has a motor power of 4KW. Yesterday, when the vacuum pump was turned on, it made abnormal noises and the motor became hot; it tripped after a short while. An electrician used a clamp meter to measure the current, and it was less than 12A. The current has exceeded the normal level. The other vacuum pump, on the other hand, is noise-free and its motor does not get hot. The current is around 8A. (Electrician’s experience: Current = Power × 2; the normal current should be a little over 8A.) There is also a strange phenomenon: under normal operation, at extreme vacuum levels, the exhaust port of the vacuum pump’s pump head (the interface for the cavitation protection tube) remains slightly open to prevent excessive noise. This exhaust port draws air inwards. However, when the pump experiences an electrical overload and the exhaust valve opens at extreme vacuum levels, water sprays out from that valve. I remember that this same phenomenon occurred whenever the pump broke down in the past. Is there anyone who knows a lot about water ring vacuum pumps? Could you help figure out what the cause is?
In addition to the friction between the moving and stationary parts in the mechanical structure, there are two points to keep in mind when operating a water ring vacuum pump to avoid overcurrent: 1. The water ring should not be too thick, otherwise it will not deliver air but instead cause water to be pumped out. 2. Pressure should not build up on the exhaust side, as this will lead to overcurrent. You can use these two points as a guide for troubleshooting

It’s difficult to control the water volume; I recommend creating a simple closed-loop system that uses solenoid valves and level sensors to automate the addition and removal of water. After all, with fewer human factors involved, the likelihood of errors is reduced
This morning, another vacuum pump started operating with a high level of water flow; after reducing the flow rate, everything returned to normal, which once again confirms the reason everyone mentioned.
