I’m confused about the industry I’m in now; I need some guidance

I have been working for four years now; I work in the instrumentation industry. Since my workplace is located in a chemical plant, it is very far from the city center – so far that there is nothing around except our company. Actually, this isn’t that big of a deal; the real issue is that it seems there are problems with the company’s management. The managers keep making various demands, and when there are issues on site, they immediately get involved and handle them themselves. But once something goes wrong, they will hold you accountable for not issuing invoices or for inadequate measures; the managers never put themselves in your shoes and simply assign all the responsibility to individuals. Besides, it seems that being a client these days is actually not as good as being a vendor. Party A’s own people handle matters among themselves in a systematic way... But it seems that the instrumentation and automatic control industry isn’t doing very well these days... I still haven’t found any suitable job opportunities. Or maybe it’s too late for me to change careers... I hope someone with experience can help me figure this out... I would be extremely grateful
It’s never too late to change careers; you just need to calculate the cost-benefit analysis. It’s not that you can’t change careers, but rather you’re too confused about the future – you shouldn’t hesitate when making a decision! It mainly depends on what you want
Well, that’s true. Compared to my current life, if I want to get something better, I indeed need to give up certain things in exchange for it, and I’m a bit hesitant… Well, I need to have the determination to make tough decisions… I’ll look carefully!
Changing careers carries significant risks; you are entering an unknown field without any experience, and there may not be anyone to guide you. Of course, life should be varied, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing to explore other industries. It’s like trying to cross a river by feeling the way forward, but don’t stay on the shore doing nothing. This is from a life perspective; from a professional standpoint, however, it’s not necessarily the case. In the workplace, choices have directional implications – if your goal is in the east and you choose to head west, you might gradually move further away from that goal.
Everyone can succeed in their field; one can also lead a comfortable life by working in the instrumentation industry. I wonder to what extent you have become familiar with field instruments, DCS, SIS, and PLCs over these four years?
Actually, I’m not sure if this direction is the right one, but it’s true that I’m thinking of working for equipment manufacturers; I don’t want to keep struggling in the front-line roles any longer... And the life in the front line these days doesn’t allow me to truly feel at peace there……
