First of all, the name of that substance you wrote does not exist; the correct name is 1,4-butanediol. 1,4-Butanediol is synthesized in China using the Reppe process; it is obtained by hydrogenating butynediol. The product may contain unhydrogenated by-products such as butenediol, as well as over-hydrogenated butanol. There will also be some high-boiling-point dimeric impurities. Other synthetic routes have different impurities. It needs to be determined in conjunction with the manufacturing process; no detailed explanation is given here.
